Minutes for the Delaware Artist Guild Meeting, September 24, 2012

Our new President, Lori Palmer opened the meeting with a welcome to members and recognition of the many visitors in attendance.  She reviewed the slate of officers for this year.  Secretary, Virginia Corwin reminded members that monthly minutes will be posted on both the web and in the newsletter for all to read.  Treasurer, Mike Palmer shared the bank statement verifying that we have $262.56 in the bank.  He then collected membership forms and fees for this year.

Exhibits Chairman, Lynda Elias reported that the YMCA exhibit will be changed tomorrow at 10 a.m. and will stay up for two months.  Members can bring new work and pick up old work at this time – or make arrangements with Lynda.  You are invited to bring up to 3 pieces. She will report through email if there is extra space and members can bring in work later.

Newsletter Chairman, Kris Kolb is interested in receiving items that might be of interest to the guild – book reviews, shows, exhibits, etc.  She will need to receive them by the middle of the month to get them in the newsletter.

New Business:  Mary Williams shared the sad news that Barb Timmons died yesterday after a long battle with Cancer.  She was a long-standing and treasured member of the guild so a motion was made and seconded to make a donation to Hospice in her name.

We still need a Vice-President.  Do we need to change the bylaws to take out the clause about the Vice-President automatically becoming the President?  Is a 2-year commitment too much to ask?  Be prepared to discuss this and make a decision at the next meeting.

Our October speaker is Lynda Sappington who will share the process of creating bronze sculptures.  She is currently exhibiting her work at the Arts Castle.  Members were encouraged to visit this show as it is a nationally juried show with work from as far as Canada.  They can also vote on for their favorite piece.

Rich Clem will be here in November to discuss creating works of abstract art.

Tom Conrad will be hosting the Christmas party in December.

Justin Kronwetter will be our presenter in February.  He also invites the guild to visit the current show at the Ross Gallery.  He will be sending us notice of two other upcoming opportunities at the Ross:  a chance to watch the process as they set up the next show and a presentation of how a show is designed and staged.  He will be sending emails with this information.

Jim Fought will be the featured artist at Beehive Books for the month of October.

A new Ohio Pastel Artist League is being formed and will meet at High Roads Gallery on the first Wed. of the month.

Janene Jackson offered a hand woven cloth to any interested guild member.

There was no additional new business so the meeting was adjourned and Lori introduced our speaker, Merle Rosen who presented information on the latest products from Golden Paints.

Respectfully submitted,
Virginia Corwin, Secretary
