MINUTES — Delaware Artist Guild — October 22, 2018

The October 2018 meeting of the Delaware Artist Guild (DAG) was held at Gallery 22 on October 22, 2018. Carolyn Jones opened the meeting at 7 p.m. with a welcome to members and guests. There were 11 members and 1 guest in attendance.

  • Carolyn announced that the Guild would continue with new officers:  Carolyn Jones as President and Treasurer, Diane Hodges as Vice President and Cindy Smith as Secretary.
  • Treasurer report stated the account balance was $276.48.  This included checks that she had held pending the confirmation of the continuation of DAG.  Sponsors who paid for the August, September and October speakers were thanked.
  • Carolyn asked for program ideas for the coming year.
  • She reminded everyone of changes to DAG meetings:  held at 7 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. and during the months of April through October, still on the fourth Monday of the month.
  • The next DAG meeting will be held on April 29, 2019

  • Diane Hodges said volunteers are needed for the Castle Arts Affair being held November 8, 9, 10, 11 and 15, 16, 17, 18.  Anyone interested should call the Arts Castle, or more specifically Susie Short.
  • The 2 upcoming murals in Delaware were discussed – Bret Cook from San Francisco will be doing the design, installation and pick the locations.  All artists are invited to take part. Carolyn has the contact information. To be placed on the mailing list to participate or just to find out more, please contact Carolyn.
  • Chris Hall will be making revisions to our DAG brochure to reflect changes in meeting times and venues.
  • Artists are invited to present an art education and enrichment program to residents at Willowbrook.  Carolyn has the information if anyone is interested.
  • There will be a free one evening workshop in pastels at the Hard Rd. Library.  Please contact Karen Everhart for information and availability of spaces.
  • “Pics and Sticks” at Gallery 22 (November 2 through December 22) will present photography on metal by Steve Hirsch and stick sculptures by Diane Hodges.
  • Meredith Martin of Sunbear Studio and Gallery in Alexandria, OH has a booth showing her pastels at this year’s Quarter Horse Congress through October 28 .  Her booth is located in Congress Hall at the Ohio Expo Center.
  • Central Ohio Symphony will celebrate its 40th anniversary in Spring of 2019 with a concert set to a backdrop of breathtaking photos by former National Parks photographer Frank Ruggles.  The event will take place in Gray Chapel at OWU.
  • There will be a DAG pop-up show in June 2019 at Gallery 22.
  • October’s speaker, John Catania, gave DAG members a duct tape challenge to create a piece of duct tape art over the winter and show it at the April 2019 meeting.

Carolyn Jones adjourned the business portion of the meeting and introduced John Catania who gave a digital presentation of his work. John explained his process and the background styles that led to his choice of duct tape as a medium. He also had actual samples so that we could see and touch the duct tape art .  He closed with a duct tape challenge (see last point above).  John passed out instruction sheets for members to follow when creating this type of art.

Mary Williams had 2 door prizes donated by Dick Blick that were awarded at the end of the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Cindy Smith, Secretary
